I never thought this would be something I would struggle with so much, but our dear child will NOT take a bottle! How contradictory from just a month ago when I posted pictures of her quietly enjoying a bottle from Mimi. Now, just a few short weeks later, she is refusing to take a bottle. It started back a couple weeks ago when Brian and I were preparing to go on our anniversary date. Now, if I have a meeting for school or if Brian and I are both away, she has been going to bed hungry; skipping her nighttime feeding, all over a refusal to suck on a bottle.
We have now tried 4 different types of bottles and nipples. We have also tried moving to a faster flow nipple, to no avail! Sierra is a very content child, however, if you try and give her a bottle she screams her guts out....it is the loudest most piercing cry ever. It is completely horrible. I am totally stumped about what to do next. In the beginning of August there is a Beth Moore Conference and I considered going to the Friday night session and the Saturday session. However, on Saturday, I would be gone from 9am till 2pm....my kid will starve!!! I am starting to feel trapped and afraid that if this continues, next month when I return to school we are going to have big issues! This is really a battle I never anticipated I would have to fight. If anyone has any suggestions, they are greatly appreciated! :)
The bottles we have tried so far....
This is the one that she actually took for us several times in the past; then at the end of June she started refusing it.

This is our most recent attempt...Brian went to the store in search of an answer and came back with this. I have not tried to give this one to her yet. Both times she has had this bottle, she has been with Brian. He said she did good the first time; however, the second time she screamed.Guess we will see how tonight goes....

Let me know what you come up with! In addition to all my worries about getting Abigail started with her feedings, I'm worried about what will happen when it comes time for me to head back to work... :-( Any advice that you come across would be most appreciated!!
Wow, that last one looks just like a boob. We tried keeping Sonya on the same bottles as her pacifiers but it didn't work either. you'd think she would have the same preference, but no. Weird. We used Avent bottles, but she never had trouble taking one so I wonder if it isn't the bottle persay, but a side effect of her drinking from one. Does she have alot of gas afterward as opposed to when you breastfeed? Looks like you have tried alot. Look for side effects of the smallest kind, change in her diapers, or sores in her mouth. Just some ideas. I will pray!
My kids always used the playtex nurser bottles (drop-ins) with the silicon nipple. Mia only had 1 ever. Wils had them often and Maegan once in a while. I tell you what, when Sierra gets to 6 months and is on solids and a sippy cup, life will be easier... until then it's all trial and error and PRAYER!!! ((hugs)) I hope you find one she will take! I'm sorry I don't have more advice.
Noa was difficult with a bottle too so I was determined to start Martha early and keep her used to it, so we try to use one at least once a week, even if we don't "need" to use it. When she first took it well, we did it like every day for a week. this may sound strange, but sometimes when its been hard for her to take it, we just stand up while giving it and it works like a charm. i thought it was just a strange martha thing til my friend told me they do the same thing... so who knows! maybe sierra will like it too.
Noa ended up only sometimes taking the nuk bottle and we did that because it was the same as her paci. she also took her milk cold in the summer time...
another idea would be to try for her first morning meal when she's most hungry. that might help to get her used to it if you do that for a few days.
Sierra is obviously very healthy and will not starve. i'm sure if she's hungry enough when you need to be away, she'll take it. it just depends on if you want to fight that battle or not :) hang in there!
We had the same issue with Madeline. She used the Medela bottles when she was about a month old and then all of a sudden she refused to take them. It wasn't until she was about 5 months old that we found out that she would take the nuk nipples. Now she we use the platex ventaires because they are curved at the bottom and it is easier to feed her while she stands up. It was very difficult to not be able to leave her, even with Andrew. But, she eventually grew out of it. Madeline also likes to drink her milk cold now. Straight out of the refrigerator. Hey, not a bad deal for me. You could also try giving her some out of a cup. Little plastic cups wih a bell shaped rim work pretty good. She might take a little bit like that. Just a thought.
