Exhausted

Well, we have returned home safely.  What a weekend, or 2 weeks actually.  I believe the Miller clan has put over 1500 miles under our belts in the last two weeks.

The wedding was fabulous.  Seeing so much family was such a blessing and truly we have one of the happiest, flexible, most content babies in the world!  I will have lots more pictures to follow once my sister sends them to me, as I used their awesome camera most of the weekend.  Here is one that I did shoot with my own camera though...what a beautiful bride and groom!!!

As of right now we are catching up on sleep, school work, house work, emails, etc.  It never seems to end, as our month of October is already filled up with things going on every weekend!!!

We are also preparing for the Celebration of Hope 2008 which is this coming Sunday, October 5th.  There is still time left to help TEAM OF FAITH to meet the $3000 goal and to sign up to walk with us!  Hope to see you all there!

More to come in the days ahead....

Happy Birthday Grace!!!

***Update - I got pictures now and news that around midnight Stace was heading to the SCU to try and nurse!!!  Yeah for answered prayers!!!***

Grace Isabella Gringer arrived sometime Friday night - Sept 19th, 2008!!!!
She is 6lbs, 2oz - 19" long.  As mentioned before she is a few weeks early and the labor was
intense.  If you would like to read specifically what my cousin Jason wrote as he was blogging AND being a labor
coach - Check out their blog -HERE

Otherwise, just know that Jason, Stacey, and Grace could all use your prayers right now.
Grace has been taken to the SCU - Special Care Unit (all too familiar to us) - and is having some testing done.  Please pray
that all comes back negative and that Stace will be holding and cuddling her little girl very soon and especially NURSING
her.  But as we all know, no matter what God's plan is, Stacey will have plenty of time to create a bond with her little
nursling and I am sure it will be oh so wonderful!

Thank you for helping me to
pray.  I am soooo excited that Sierra has a new little girl cousin!
Once I get pictures, we will pass
 them along.

CONGRATS JASON AND STACEY and WELCOME TO THE FAMILY GRACE ISABELLA!!!
WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH ALREADY!

New Life

The Lord never ceases to amaze me.  With death always comes new life.  God always seems to give us something to be thankful for, even among our own sorrow.

I am happy to announce that my cousin, Jason and his wife Stacey are getting ready to give birth to their baby girl.  Stacey is not due until October 5th, however, just like my sister Katie, Stace's water broke 2 weeks early and Grace is ready to come!!! :)

They left for the hospital around 7 am this morning with contractions being 5 minutes apart.  I am so thankful for God's provision in this life.  After my whole ordeal with trying to get Sierra out, I have been praying that things will be "easier" for Stacey and Jason.  I am thankful that He is in control.  Please keep them in your prayers as they prepare and "labor" to welcome their little one in the world and on their new journey of parenting!

Here is their latest update....

"9:00 - 11:00am --- Moved into our room now, met with a doctor from Stacey's office (ours is not on call today), and they gave her a Cytotec pill to help "soften the cervix" and hopefully help get some dilation working. This dose will take about 4 hours and then they'll see if she needs to take another round of it. Stacey is having a lot of back pain and back labor along with the contractions which isn't helping much, however the labor actually seems to be progressing a lot faster now the meds have set in and the contractions are getting a lot stronger. Wasn't the original plan but will probably soon be going for the epidural..."

As soon as I can, I will post pictures of little wonderful, Grace Gringer!!!

Saying Goodbye

It is never easy to say goodbye.  In fact, in my 28 years of life, I have only had to say goodbye one time.  I have been so blessed by God in that way.  I have grown to believe that some people will live forever, knowing full well that we are all mortal beings.

Today, September 16th, we had to say goodbye.

My paternal grandfather, Papa Stank, peacefully passed away from this life.
Shortly after hearing the news, I immediately begin to write my feelings down in my head.  I never have been very good at displaying my emotions.  When Daniel was sick, I became very good at wrapping it all up inside, for no one else to see.  Instead, I turn to words...writing has always been my escape.  Even today, Brian lovingly wants to hold me and wrap me in his arms, allowing me to break down and let it all go; yet I hold on.  I know Brian understands and doesn't hold it against me.  I am sure someday God is going to knock it all out of me, that day will probably suck really bad!  For now though, I will do all that I know how...share with words.

My grandfather, or Papa, as us Stank kids used to call him, lived about 3 hours away during my childhood. We used to see them often though, and I recall so many times when he and my grandmother would be there to help us color Easter eggs, for our birthdays, and for other special events. As we got older, we would visit at Thanksgiving, Graduations, weddings, and birthdays.

Papa loved to play golf and to smoke his cigars.  He always smelled like cigars and it was never a bad smell to me.  When we were little he would give us his empty cigar boxes; it was a box that we would use for our wonderful childhood "treasures".  I will never forget those light blue boxes.

Papa was the best storyteller in the world.  I am saddened to think that Sierra will never hear of all the stories he could tell.  I remember Rapunzel and Rumpelstiltskin and the Three Bears.  We would all lay in bed together and be mesmerized by Papa's story telling.

Papa was missing half of one of his fingers because of an accident he had at work.  He would always tell us that my grandmother got mad at him and bite it off.  I seriously think as a little kid, I used to believe him.  He would tickle us with the little nub of a finger that he had and we would all giggle and laugh.

He was a fighter, up until his very last breath.  He was a United States Marine and he served this country proud.  He fought in World War II in the South Pacific.  He trained at Parris Island and back in 1998 when I was telling him about Brian's boot camp training at the time, I remember him saying, "those boys train in paradise now.  When I was in boot camp, Parris Island was nothing but huts and mud."  Once a Marine, Always a Marine.

Papa was always full of life.  Even though he suffered a stroke 5 years ago that severely disabled one side of his body, he was never gonna give in to just sitting around.  Papa was literally "Mr. Fix-It" and would always be looking for a job to do whenever he was visiting.  He could never just sit still.

Papa was the only man I know who combined the words "Hi" and "You" into one word and would ALWAYS greet you that way. "Hi-ya" was always the first thing that rolled off his tongue whenever he saw you.

He was such a wonderful Grandfather.  I know he was a wonderful Father too, because he raised and trained the loving father that I have today.

Papa, I am sure you greeted the Lord today.  I am sure Jesus smiled when you said, "Hi-ya"!!!
You will be missed.  I cherish the memories I have and will make sure that Sierra knows what a wonderful Great-Grandfather she had in you.

Please keep my family in your prayers as we all travel to New York to say our final Goodbyes.

Happy Birthday Dad

I did not forget that today, or yesterday, depending on when you are reading this...(September 16th) was my father's birthday!

It was a day....that is for sure!!!

Happy Birthday Dad! We love you!  You are so special to us, and are in our thoughts and prayers, especially today!

Happy Birthday Abigail Ng

Our dear friend Kristen and her husband Carey, have welcomed home their precious little girl. We are so very excited for them to share in this new journey of parenting.  I know many of you have been praying for them and wondering when Abby was going to come.  I do not have many details, but they wrote on their blog that everything is going great.  Abby was born on Friday, September 12th.  Kristen was suppose to be induced after heading to the hospital at 9 pm on September 11th. Abby was born at 1:58 pm on Friday afternoon, so it sounds like the labor was "short" and smooth.

Abby is 7 pounds and 11 ounces (just one ounce smaller than Sierra) and she is 21 inches long (same as Sierra).  She is sooo cute and has little chubby cheeks that I am sure are getting covered with lots of kisses.

Kristen, Brian, and I have been friends since childhood.  I do wish that we lived closer.  Kristen and Carey live just outside New York City.  I would love for Sierra and Abby to be fun friends like Kris and I were growing up.  Hopefully, we will get to meet little Abby very soon.  Maybe I can convince my hubby to take me to NYC for a long weekend this winter! :)

Please keep the Ng family in your prayers as they venture into this new journey of parenting!
I know they will be wonderful parents and Abby is super blessed to have them!

5 Months Old!!!

Sierra turned 5 months old, 5 days ago.  We did not forget it, I promise.  We remembered, but we just have been so busy these days.  Aside from our busy schedules, Sierra certainly did turn 5 months old.  We really can’t believe it.  She has grown so much and keeps changing daily.

  • She finally "found" her feet and has learned that she can pull on her toes and play with her feet.  Any time her feet are "bare" (which is why she is half naked in the pictures below) she immediately grabs at them and pulls them up.  As you will see in the pictures, she can even play with her toes and eat her favorite meal (aside from breast milk, of course) - DUCK!  This new found adventure comes in very handy for us when diaper changing is taking place.  She has yet to put them in her mouth though.  I think the chubby thighs between her feet and her mouth are creating a bit of a blockade. :)

  • She still loves to read books and I have now brought some downstairs instead of having them all reserved for bed or nap time.  We love to read books, we lie on our bellies on the living room floor and look through them.  One of my classes this semester is "Teaching Reading to Elementary Students" so that is coming in very handy right now! You can never start too young.  :)

  • She is really squealing now.  I have read that babies start to squeal a lot around 6 months and they continue to do it because they like to hear the noises they are making.  Her squeals are funny and random and I am secretly hoping that they don’t get worse at 6 months.  As cute as she is, I could really go without the squealing and screaming! J
  • I am still holding on to my desire to start solids after 6 months, I sometimes wonder if I will regret my decision, especially when she is screaming at bedtime, acting like she is still hungry and she has sucked me dry.  But for now, her crying spells for hunger are nothing a bottle can’t fix and she doesn't look like she is hurtin' for calories.  Thank God for all my expressed milk and praise Him that she is drinking from the bottle like a champ!
  • She does not have any teeth yet; even though she has been sporting a runny nose for the past week.  Not sure if she is just sharing the cold that Brian and I picked up from somewhere or if it is teething related.  She is chewing on EVERYTHING and even gets mad if you take your finger away or if she drops the toy she was currently mouthing.  I am happy with her not having any teeth just yet, as our nursing relationship is still going strong.
  • She loves singing and I try to sing to her often.  She will laugh and giggle when ever you tickle her or make funny sounds and faces.  Her giggle is so wonderful to hear.
  • She is still only rolling from her back to her front, no luck on going the other way just yet.  This makes for very difficult evenings when she rolls on her tummy in her crib and then gets mad about it.  Her strong-willed nature is starting to come out.  Wonder where she gets that from???  Currently we are using a rolled up bath towel which we wedge between her and the side of the crib while she sleeps.  It has been working so far.  Last night I checked on her and she was actually “cuddling” with it; holding it as she slept.  Too cute!!!
  • She is not sitting up just yet, but I know that milestone is just around the corner.  She sits up for several minutes while leaning on me or Brian and she will sit up while on our laps for a long time.  She actually sat up in the bath tub really good last night. I was thankful for that and can’t wait till she can be in the tub and I don’t have to hold on to her every second.  Bath time has not been super fun up to this point, but last night I put a duck in with her and she really liked it.  I am looking forward to the time when taking a bath is fun and playful.  She will "tri-pod" sit for several minutes before falling forward.  She is good at that.  We keep working on it every day, and I hoping that by 6 months she will be sitting up.  Playtime will be so much more fun then!
  • She is still taking two naps a day, and hopefully will keep that up for a while to come.

  • She is starting to grab at everything.  We work hard at that task every day.  I often will hold a toy or object just a little higher than her head and try to get her to reach out for it. She is getting the hang of it.  I love watching her learn!!!
All in all, she is so sweet and just wonderful to be around.  We are so blessed by her.  I am sure her 6 month post will be full of information about the adventures of starting solid foods.  Until then I will leave you with this picture of our growing girl....the shirt says it all.

Home again, Home again, Jigity-Jig

We have been home from the beach for a while now, and as soon as we got back, life swallowed us up again.  I know what you are thinking.  I have been really slack on my posts these days.  Sorry.  School started and the time management begun, and unfortunately time for blogging has not been built into the schedule yet.

We had a blast at the beach.  Aside from our honeymoon, and a family vacation we once took to San Diego, I would have to say that this past week at the beach was the best week of my life.  It was such a blessing to be with my hubby and daughter, my parents and my sister, brother-in-law, and nephew.  We are already planning for next year and having EVERYONE with us this time!  I could not be more excited about that!!!  It is hard to believe that Sierra will be 14 months when we go and will probably be walking around the beach and a wonderful playmate for Pierce (and any other kids that join our family in the next 12 months)! :)

We have lots of fun and exciting things in the weeks to come.  My brother is getting married in just 2 weeks and we couldn't be happier!  We will be heading out of town for 5 days to celebrate. We can't wait to see all our family and introduce Sierra to so many people that have not met her yet.  These weddings are always like mini family reunions.  We are so excited for Mike and Blakely.  We love them so much and can't wait to have Blakely as our sister.  Of course lots more pictures to come from that event.

Also, as many of you received the email this past week, the 4th annual Celebration of Hope is scheduled for October 5th.  We are very much looking forward to this annual event and pray that many of you can join us.  Check out our team website at Team of FAITH and consider joining us by clicking on "Register for this Event" or giving a monetary donation by filling out the box on the bottom of the page.  It should be a wonderful fall day and a perfect time to help raise awareness about Brain tumors.

I hope you all are doing great as well.  Thankfully, Brian is wrapping up his stint on night shift.  I am so excited to have him here during the days now and I am thankful that he will be sleeping now when everyone else sleeps! :)  Love and Prayers to all our readers out there!

Pray, Pray, Pray!!!

I can not believe my eyes.  It is unbelievable what is happening in the southern portion of our country at this moment.  I have been praying all day for the people of the Texas and Louisiana area.

I will admit that I have been watching Fox News Channel since I woke up this morning, expect for the 2 hours that Brian changed the channel before he left for work.  He can't believe that I can watch it all day long, but I seriously could watch Fox News 24 hours a day. :)

I can't believe that they are actually talking to people on the phone that have chosen to stay behind, not listening to the mandatory evacuations and the confirmations that if you stay behind you will face "certain death". They are telling people that have decided to stay behind to write their social security numbers on their arms.  Unbelievable!!!!

Now they are reporting that one of the local levees in Louisiana has been breached as well.  They have been stating that this hurricane could be one of the worst storms to hit the US in our Nation's history. Even though it is a Cat 2 storm, the total make-up of the storm and the size of it is being described as worse than Katrina!  The storm is stretching 600 miles wide!!!!  Amazing!

Pray, Pray, Pray!!!!  Also remember the law enforcement and emergency personnel who have to stay behind to take care of business and take care of those stubborn residents that decided to stay behind. That would also be a very strong reality for us, if Virginia Beach was ever threatened by a hurricane, with Brian being a law enforcement officer as well.

Just Pray!!!

Never Forget

I orginially wrote this post last year on September 11th, 2007...I think it is only fitting to post it again...

Let us never forget what this country and so many of its citizens endured 7 years ago today.

When someone says the words, "Never Forget" - This is what I think it means -

Never Forget the victims that died on airplanes, in the World Trade Centers, in the Pentagon, and in a PA field.

Never Forget those that are still grieving their losses, as I can attest to, grief never fully goes away.

Never Forget how we pulled together as a nation during the weeks and months after.

Never Forget the men and women who continue to fight and die for our safety and freedom.

Never Forget the children who lost their moms and dads.

Never Forget the husbands and wives who lost their best friends and spouses.

Never Forget that although we all go through trials and tribulations, looking back on September 11th should make us thankful to be alive and thankful that we are blessed by a loving Father in Heaven.

Never Forget to say I love you to all those that you do.

Never Forget to Pray - God is always listening.

Please also specifically remember my friend Mary in your prayers. She lost her husband at the World Trade Center on Sept 11, 2001.

Thank you! Brian and I pray that you all have a blessed day!! :)

SunSet at Jockey's Ridge

On Tuesday night we enjoyed a wonderful dinner out and then we headed over to Jockey's Ridge State Park.  We were staying in Duck, which is about 16 miles north of Nags Head, so we figured since we were in the Nags Head area, we would catch some of the sights.  I personally LOVE Jockey's Ridge and have been there numerous times before, so I really wanted to share it with my family as well.  This was one of Daniel's favorite places to go also.

We were able to get there just in time to watch the sunset over the sound.  It was glorious and magnificent.  It is a clear reminder of how wonderful are Lord and Creator is.  Truly amazing!

Here are some pictures of the evening...

Us at Dinner
Kate & Shaun at dinner
Sierra at dinner - She chose to eat lamb instead of any seafood. (I guess she takes after her dad and loves lamb.)

Mom and Dad at dinner with their grand babies.

Pierce always giving Sierra kisses whenever he can! :)
Hugs are free anytime too...

The sisters and cousins on top of Jockey's Ridge.

Sierra and I enjoying the sunset.

Trying to take a picture with the kiddos, but Pierce is more interested in the sand and Sierra is more interested in watching Pierce.
After a while, we gave up on the poses and decided to start helping them bury their toes.

Beautiful Sunset!
Brian and Sierra watching the sunset.
Kate taking in the vastness of the dunes.
Pierce loves the sand!!!

Last Day at the Beach

Friday was our last day at the beach. We had to head back a day early because Hurricane Hanna was threatening the NC coast. Here are a few pictures of our last morning at the beach. What a wonderful time we had!!!!

The walk to the beach was not far at all and it was a nice little morning walk for everyone.  Especially Sierra, who was pushed every where! :)
All set-up at our regular beach spot.
It was definitely a windy morning, there was no doubt that a hurricane was brewing off shore.  Here is Sierra, trying to use her hat to keep the sand out of her eyes.  We weren't very successful and it was not a long stay for The Miller's - shortly after arriving, we took Sierra back to the beach house for her morning nap.
Uncle Brian was helping Pierce build some sandcastles.  All Pierce really wanted to do was knock them down though! :)
Pierce on a mission with his shovel

Here's a video I took on that last morning in Duck, as well (as you can tell, it was very windy, but hopefully you can hear my narration).
