PRAXIS I

Some of you may know what the Praxis I testing is all about, for those that don't, I will explain briefly. In many states (excluding NY State, which I find to be interesting that their teachers are not required to pass Praxis I exams) to be eligible for entry into a teaching licensure and certification education program you must submit passing Praxis scores to your university of study.

This test is designed to include content-specific tests, pedagogical tests, and basic skills tests. According to the test website "The Praxis tests measure specific content and pedagogical skills and knowledge for beginning teaching practice. The tests do not measure skills related to an individuals disposition toward teaching or potential for success. The Praxis Series assessments are designed to be comprehensive and inclusive, but are limited to what can be covered in a finite number of questions and question types." Basically it is a whole lot of questions broken up into three sections, Reading, Mathematics, and Writing.

My very good friend Jenny and I purchased practice books to study and prepare for these tests because we do not know anyone that has passed them on the first try. In fact, most people we associate with in our major have had to take this test multiple times before passing. Needless to say we were a little nervous about it. Also, to take all three sections of the test, the cost is $130.00 - Now, I am not a working woman at this time and I know my husband loves me, but to have to ask him for another $130.00 because I failed, would not be fun.

Jenny and I took the test on Friday, October 5th and finally received our final scores in the mail yesterday. I opened mine while I was on the phone with her last night, a little hesitant about what I was going to see.

WE PASSED! WE PASSED! WE PASSED!

Jenny and I both passed with flying colors on THE FIRST TRY!!!!

Needless to say, we were/are so very excited!

My final scores:

Reading - 184 out of 190

Math - 178 out of 190

Writing - 178 out of 190

Composite Score = 540 (Regent requires a composite of at least 532)

SO EXCITING!!! (and the hubby is happy he doesn't have to shell out another $130) :)

You go girl. Get down with your bad self.

Good job though, for real. It's never fun to have to take tests like that multiple times. I'm proud of you! :)
