5 Months Old!!!

Sierra turned 5 months old, 5 days ago.  We did not forget it, I promise.  We remembered, but we just have been so busy these days.  Aside from our busy schedules, Sierra certainly did turn 5 months old.  We really can’t believe it.  She has grown so much and keeps changing daily.

  • She finally "found" her feet and has learned that she can pull on her toes and play with her feet.  Any time her feet are "bare" (which is why she is half naked in the pictures below) she immediately grabs at them and pulls them up.  As you will see in the pictures, she can even play with her toes and eat her favorite meal (aside from breast milk, of course) - DUCK!  This new found adventure comes in very handy for us when diaper changing is taking place.  She has yet to put them in her mouth though.  I think the chubby thighs between her feet and her mouth are creating a bit of a blockade. :)

  • She still loves to read books and I have now brought some downstairs instead of having them all reserved for bed or nap time.  We love to read books, we lie on our bellies on the living room floor and look through them.  One of my classes this semester is "Teaching Reading to Elementary Students" so that is coming in very handy right now! You can never start too young.  :)

  • She is really squealing now.  I have read that babies start to squeal a lot around 6 months and they continue to do it because they like to hear the noises they are making.  Her squeals are funny and random and I am secretly hoping that they don’t get worse at 6 months.  As cute as she is, I could really go without the squealing and screaming! J
  • I am still holding on to my desire to start solids after 6 months, I sometimes wonder if I will regret my decision, especially when she is screaming at bedtime, acting like she is still hungry and she has sucked me dry.  But for now, her crying spells for hunger are nothing a bottle can’t fix and she doesn't look like she is hurtin' for calories.  Thank God for all my expressed milk and praise Him that she is drinking from the bottle like a champ!
  • She does not have any teeth yet; even though she has been sporting a runny nose for the past week.  Not sure if she is just sharing the cold that Brian and I picked up from somewhere or if it is teething related.  She is chewing on EVERYTHING and even gets mad if you take your finger away or if she drops the toy she was currently mouthing.  I am happy with her not having any teeth just yet, as our nursing relationship is still going strong.
  • She loves singing and I try to sing to her often.  She will laugh and giggle when ever you tickle her or make funny sounds and faces.  Her giggle is so wonderful to hear.
  • She is still only rolling from her back to her front, no luck on going the other way just yet.  This makes for very difficult evenings when she rolls on her tummy in her crib and then gets mad about it.  Her strong-willed nature is starting to come out.  Wonder where she gets that from???  Currently we are using a rolled up bath towel which we wedge between her and the side of the crib while she sleeps.  It has been working so far.  Last night I checked on her and she was actually “cuddling” with it; holding it as she slept.  Too cute!!!
  • She is not sitting up just yet, but I know that milestone is just around the corner.  She sits up for several minutes while leaning on me or Brian and she will sit up while on our laps for a long time.  She actually sat up in the bath tub really good last night. I was thankful for that and can’t wait till she can be in the tub and I don’t have to hold on to her every second.  Bath time has not been super fun up to this point, but last night I put a duck in with her and she really liked it.  I am looking forward to the time when taking a bath is fun and playful.  She will "tri-pod" sit for several minutes before falling forward.  She is good at that.  We keep working on it every day, and I hoping that by 6 months she will be sitting up.  Playtime will be so much more fun then!
  • She is still taking two naps a day, and hopefully will keep that up for a while to come.

  • She is starting to grab at everything.  We work hard at that task every day.  I often will hold a toy or object just a little higher than her head and try to get her to reach out for it. She is getting the hang of it.  I love watching her learn!!!
All in all, she is so sweet and just wonderful to be around.  We are so blessed by her.  I am sure her 6 month post will be full of information about the adventures of starting solid foods.  Until then I will leave you with this picture of our growing girl....the shirt says it all.

What a great update, and I just have to say that I love her cheeks! (I'm sure you get that a lot, but seriously, they are great!)
