So much has happened in those two years and God has truly blessed me. But there is not a day that goes by that I do not think about Daniel and how much he meant to me. Our 6 years together were short, but there are so many memories.
The video below was created by me and our friend Jeremy Pickwell. It was watched by many at Daniel's memorial service on June 24, 2006. The second song on the video was picked by Daniel, himself before he passed away; he chose this song hoping it would be a reminder to all those that he loved what he "wished" for them after he was gone. Daniel asked Jeremy to sing it live at the memorial service for him. Jeremy learned the song in less than a week and did an incredible job singing it in memory of Daniel. Unfortunately, all video cameras at the memorial service stopped working prior to Jeremy's performance, so this video has the original artists version on it.
This video is hard to watch, it brings tears and laughter - every picture has a story behind it. But it is so comforting to know that we do not grieve like those who have no hope, as Paul tells us in 1 Thessalonians 4:13. As Believers, we will be reunited with the Lord one day soon.
*Thank you to my Sister and Brother-in-Law, Kate & Shaun for working to get this video up on You Tube for me so that I could share it with you all. I hope you are blessed by it.
Last year I posted this poem by Mrs. Lyman Hancock and I believe it is only fitting to post it once again. For I know, "His Best" is what Daniel always wanted us to remember.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I come to the end of my journey
And I travel my last weary mile,
Just forget if you can, that I ever frowned
And only remember the smile.
Forget unkind words I have spoken;
Remember some good I have done.
Forget that I ever had heartache
And remember I’ve had loads of fun.
Forget that I’ve stumbled and blundered
And sometimes fell by the way.
Remember I have fought some hard battles
And won, ere the close of the day.
Then forget to grieve for my going,
I would not have you sad for a day,
But in summer just gather some flowers
And remember the place where I lay,
And come in the shade of evening
When the sun paints the sky in the west.
Stand for a few moments beside me
And remember only my best.
Love you.
What a wonderful post Karen. Somedays I can't believe it has been two years already..time sure flies! But like you said, so much has happened since then.
Thank you for honoring his memory and for putting that video up for everyone to see.
We love you guys!
Karen,
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. Even though I did not know Daniel, I feel like I did. The video made me cry. May he be looking down from Heaven and smiling upon us. I know he would be proud of you!
What a beautiful post, Karen! So many wonderful memories from Daniel's incredible life.
Love you!
Katie
Karen,
Today when I chose what I was going to wear, I chose the same outfit that I wore the day of that Our Lord took Daniel home. I didn't realize the date until tonight. My outfit was purple!! One of Daniel's favorite colors. Thanks for sharing the video.
Hi Karen.
Thank you so much for posting such a sweet memorial to Daniel. And thank you for the video. I commented on Kate's blog, but as someone who didn't know Daniel well, this video truly shows a man after God's heart, willing to give all for His Glory. Amazing man. God bless you & Brian & Sierra, and thanks for furthering Daniel's memory in such a beautiful way!
Love,
Jenny
